On September 17, 2023, the Polish Community Picnic, organized by the Polish Embassy in Ljubljana, took place in the picturesque Pokljuka region in Slovenia. This unique meeting was opened by Krzysztof Olendzki – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland in Slovenia. Dr. Magdalena Wencka from IMP PAS actively participated in the organization of the event and conducted scientific workshops on the occasion of the 550th anniversary of the birth of the great Pole and scientist – Nicolaus Copernicus. The main theme of the shows was "super cold forms of gases" available both on our planet and in space. Dr. Wencka also took part in a radio broadcast by Slovenian Radio SI during which cultural and linguistic similarities and differences between Poland and Slovenia were discussed.
On September 25-30, 2023, our Institute hosted Prof. Richard Buchner from the University of Regensburg, who is a world-renowned expert in the field of research on dielectric properties, interactions, and molecular dynamics of liquids. The Professor's arrival was related with running a globally unique equipment at IMP PAS, previously developed and used by the Professor at the University of Regensburg, which enables measurements of dielectric properties in liquids in the microwave range from 1 to 50 GHz. The main purpose of his visit was to develop a new calibration method and perform test measurements together with Dr. Płowaś-Korus from the Department of Physics of Liquid Crystals and Dielectric Systems. During the visit, our guest also gave an institute seminar.
During this year's Researchers’ Night, our Institute was visited by crowds of participants eager for knowledge and wanting to have fun discovering the extraordinary world of science. The rich program offer prepared by our employees was received by the guests very positively, and often joyfully and enthusiastically. We would like to express our special thanks to the organizers of the Researchers’ Night at IMP PAS for their efforts in organizing this event. We would also like to thank the researchers presenting their research results in laboratories, the presenters of shows and workshops, and the creators of film materials, as well as volunteers and all people who contributed to improving the course of the event.

The next edition of Researchers’ Night starts this Friday on September 29, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. This huge European undertaking takes place simultaneously in 26 countries and also involves universities and institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences from our region. It is an excellent opportunity for direct meetings and bringing scientists and society closer together, spreading awareness of the importance of scientific research, and showing the diversity and beauty of science and its impact on the everyday life of citizens.
On September 13-15, the 7th National Conference “Kryształki Molekularne 2023”, dedicated to young entrants of science (students and PhDs) associated with various research institutions in Poland, was held at our Institute. During this year's "Kryształki Molekularne" we had the honour to listen to the inaugural lecture by Professor Józef Spałek. Three oral presentations by the participants were selected and awarded by the Poznań Branch of the Polish Physical Society. The awards were received by: Kamila Łupińska from the University of Science and Technology in Wrocław, Piotr Radomski from the University of Technology in Poznań and Marharyta Hancharova from the University of Science and Technology in Wrocław.
On September 11-15, 2023, Professor David Heyes – an expert in the field of soft matter, computer simulation methods and theory of liquids, currently associated with Imperial College London and Royal Holloway University of London, paid a short visit to our Institute. Professor Heyes has been cooperating with employees from the Department of Physics of Liquid Crystals and Dielectric Systems and the Department of Auxetics, Functional Materials and Computer Simulations for many years. The purpose of the current visit was to jointly investigate the influence of liquid isomorphism and transport coefficients. During the visit, our scientists took the opportunity to meet, discuss and exchange scientific experiences with the guest.
The board of Directors had the great pleasure of hosting prof. IFM PAN dr. hab. Maria Połomska during the celebration of her 80th birthday. The professor has been associated with our Institute since its inception and worked in the Department of Ferroelectrics for many years. She is an outstanding specialist in the field of Raman spectroscopy. Her research on the phenomenon of ferroelectricity and multiferroicity brought her international fame. Her early work on bismuth ferrate BiFeO3, often called the "Holy Grail" of multiferroics, which predated the 21st century of "multiferroics revolution" by more than two decades, are particularly appreciated.
On the occasion of Professor Połomska’s 80th birthday, we wish the Dignified Jubilarian constant cheer and lots of strength and health.
On September 1, 2023, we hosted Professor Klaus von Klitzing at the Institute – the Nobel Prize winner in Physics “for the discovery of the quantized Hall effect”. During the meeting, our researchers had the opportunity to take part in a conversation with the eminent guest, talk about research conducted at the Institute, and listen to a short presentation by Prof. von Klitzing. The meeting took place in a great atmosphere, conducive to interesting discussions and information exchange. We would like to thank the world-renowned scientist for his time and interest in our Institute. We would also like to thank everyone who was involved in the organization of this unique event.
Congratulations to the scientists from the Department of Thin Films and Nanostructures (Daniel Kiphart, Feliks Stobiecki and Piotr Kuświk), who will conduct a study at the National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS on ferrimagnetic layered systems structured by a focused ion beam. The allocation of research time was decided by an international committee, which highly appreciated the application of our employees, emphasizing the innovative nature of the planned research. The use of the SOLARIS infrastructure will be free of charge for our Institute and the obtained results will allow for a more complete explanation of the process of patterning magnetic domains without domain walls in structured ferrimagnetic systems.
On Friday, June 10, 2023, the Final of the 2nd National Construction Competition entitled "Physics in Motion" was held at IMP PAS. This time, the aim of the contest was to build a prototype of a capsule (with an egg on the board), which, when thrown from a height of approx. 7 m, will cover the greatest possible distance and will protect the unique "passenger" from damage after falling to the ground.
More than 30 teams from different regions of Poland took part in the close competition. The winners of the contest were: Powiatowy Zespół Szkół in Bieruniu (1st place), CLVII LO im. Marii Skłodowskiej-Curie from Warsaw (2nd place), and III LO im. Agnieszki Osieckiej in Sopot (3rd place).
We would like to thank all participants for their commitment and participation in the competition, and the organizers for its efficient conducting. Separate thanks are due to the Ministry of Education and Science for supporting this form of education and popularizing science (SONP/SP/513407/2021).

These conferences are held under the honorary patronage by the Institute of Molecular Physics PAS and are thematically in line with the activities of our scientists. We strongly encourage participation in these events.
The mobile educational point "H2Wielkopolska Showroom" is a campaign carried out on the initiative of the local government of the Greater Poland Voivodeship, the purpose of which is to disseminate knowledge about low and zero emission technologies among the public, with a particular emphasis on the possibility of using hydrogen. From May 30 to June 5, the thematic workshops, with the participation of our employees (Dr. Eng. M. Knapkiewicz, Dr. Eng. Ł. Lindner, Dr. Eng. P. Ławniczak, Dr. Eng. A. Mizera, Dr. Eng. A. Ostrowski, Dr. Eng. S. Zięba) were held in various places in Greater Poland, during which the basics of processes in the field of hydrogen technologies were explained, including the possibility of producing “green” hydrogen in the water electrolysis process.
On May 12-20, the XXVI Poznań Festival of Science and Art took place. Our employees took an active part in this event, which encouraged all guests and participants to "Bravely discover the world".
This year's "Hydrogen roadshow" event once again educates and raises awareness of what the hydrogen economy is and how hydrogen can transform transport, industry, storage and energy use by all of us. On May 5-17, the "hydrogen town" - an initiative of the local government of the Greater Poland Voivodeship, in which our Institute also actively participated, visited Konin, Leszno, Piła and Poznań. It was an excellent opportunity to get involved for the benefit of society and to communicate information about hydrogen solutions as a real alternative to traditional fuels.
On April 24, at the registered office of AQUANET S.A. in Poznań, a meeting was held between representatives of the Director's Board of the IMP PAS (Zbigniew Trybuła and Adam Rachocki) with the company's authorities represented by Zbigniew Grocholski (Chairman of the Supervisory Board), Paweł Chudziński (President of the Management Board, General Director), Anna Graczyk (Vice-President of the Management Board, Technical Director) and Marek Borowski (Vice-President of the Management Board, Director of Development). The meeting was also attended by Prof. Dr. hab. Lucyna Firlej. The current challenges faced by water supply companies in Poland were discussed in terms of improving the energy efficiency of the applied technological processes, as well as possible areas of bilateral cooperation.
