By the decision of the Scientific Award Committee of the City of Poznań, chaired by Prof. Marek Świtoński, the scholarships were awarded to young researchers from the Poznań scientific community. Among the recipients was Dr. Anuj Kumar Dhiman from the Institute of Molecular Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, who conducts theoretical research at the Department of Thin Films and Nanostructures. The distinction was awarded for a scientific achievement concerning magnonic and phononic phenomena in nanostructures. The scholarship award ceremony took place on May 28, 2026, at the Poznań City Hall.

We warmly congratulate the laureate on this prestigious distinction and wish him continued success in his scientific career.

On 21 May 2026, we had the pleasure of hosting at our Institute students from the Hexa Nanotechnologists Scientific Club operating at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków.

The visit provided an opportunity to become more familiar with the activities of IMP PAS and to exchange experiences between young researchers and the Institute’s scientific staff. The AGH students were introduced to the research profile of IMP PAS, the scientific projects being carried out, and the modern infrastructure used in the daily work of our research groups. The meeting also created an opportunity for discussions on the possibilities for students’ scientific development, research cooperation, as well as internships and traineeships at the Institute.

We hope that the visit was an inspiring experience for the participants and an encouragement to further develop their scientific interests.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. hab. Piotr Kuświk, Prof. IMP PAS, has been appointed to the General Council of the European Magnetism Association (EMA). The mission of EMA is to support the development of research on magnetism and magnetic materials in Europe. The Association works to increase the visibility and importance of both fundamental and applied research, while also fostering collaboration between the scientific community and the industrial sector. More information about the Association’s activities and its initiatives is available on the EMA website.

Following the recent celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Institute of Molecular Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, today we are holding a ceremony to present state decorations to the Institute’s employees. The nominations for these awards, submitted on the occasion of the Institute’s Golden Jubilee, were put forward to the President of the Republic of Poland by the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Prof. Marek Konarzewski.

The awards, i.e. Medals for Long Service as well as Crosses of Merit, were presented by the Vice-President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Prof. Mirosława Ostrowska. She emphasized that this event is an important part of the Jubilee celebrations and a way to recognize the work and dedication of those who help build the Institute and its achievements (photo gallery). In addition, a group of professors will receive the Knights of the Order of Polonia Restituta from the President of the Republic of Poland. We warmly congratulate all those honored.

On behalf of the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Development TYGIEL we invite participation in the conference entitled Interdisciplinarity as a key to development (March 19-21, 2026) which is held under the honorary patronage by the Institute of Molecular Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. We encourage to take part in this unique conference and wish everyone interested in participating in this event fruitful meetings and inspiring scientific discussions.

The Institute of Molecular Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences – thanks to its achievements in research on the separation of the rare 3He isotope – has been recognized and honored by the Marshal of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship by being included in two new advisory bodies: the Wielkopolska Council for Space and the Wielkopolska Council for Nuclear Energy. A representative of IMP PAS, the Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs, was appointed to participate in the work of both Councils and represents the Institute in these advisory bodies. Participation in the Councils enables the Institute to actively contribute to shaping new and strategic directions of regional development through advisory and opinion-forming activities for the benefit of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship Government.

We are pleased to announce that the community of young researchers at the Institute of Molecular Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences has been joined by a new member. Ms. M.Sc. Marcelina Przybył, a graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, won a competition for a doctoral scholarship within a research project funded by the National Science Centre and was admitted to the Poznań Doctoral School of Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The doctoral student will pursue her PhD dissertation within the OPUS-28 grant entitled “Metal-ionic supramolecular electrolyte membranes for energy storage applications: design, synthesis and characterization (MESMERISE)”, under the supervision of Dr. hab. Eng. Michał Bielejewski, Prof. IFM PAS. The project focuses on innovative solutions in the field of energy storage.

We congratulate the awardee on her success and wish her enthusiasm in discovering new molecular systems, successful implementation of the MESMERISE project, and many scientific achievements at our Institute.

During the most recent meeting of the Council of Rectors of the City of Poznań, an agreement was signed to implement the PoDEST programme (Poznań Doctoral Exchange for Science and Training), which our Institute has also joined. The programme aims to develop long-term cooperation between Poznań universities and institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences in the field of doctoral education. Within PoDEST, doctoral candidates will have the opportunity to participate in courses, training sessions and other forms of support offered by various doctoral schools in Poznań, including those outside their home institution. The initiative seeks to enhance the quality of education, broaden the competences of early-career researchers, and strengthen cooperation and integration within the Poznań academic community.

On December 10, 2025, the fifth edition of the Parties’ Conference of the “Sectoral Agreement for the Development of the Hydrogen Economy” was held in Warsaw – the largest hydrogen-related event in Poland, organized by the Ministry of Climate and Environment. The conference brought together representatives from business, industry, academia, business support institutions, as well as central and local government administration involved in the development of hydrogen technologies. Our Institute was represented by the Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs. IFM PAN has been a signatory of the Sectoral Agreement since its inception in 2021.

On December 9, 2025, the awards ceremony of the Faculty of Science and Earth Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Faculty III PAS) was held at the headquarters of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. The ceremony was attended by: the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences – Prof. Marek Konarzewski, the Vice President of the Polish Academy of Sciences – Prof. Natalia Sobczak, and the Dean of the Faculty III PAS – Prof. Janusz Jurczak, who presented Dr. Krzysztof Ptaszyński with the Professor Stefan Pieńkowski Award. The award was granted by the Faculty III PAS for Dr. Ptaszyński’s scientific achievement entitled "Statistical Physics of Correlations and Fluctuations in Non-Equilibrium Open Systems".

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Krzysztof Ptaszyński and wish him continued outstanding scientific success.

On 29 November 2025, a meeting of the newly elected Main Board of the Polish Physical Society (PTF) was held. During the session, Prof. Andrzej Łapiński was elected as an executive member and thus joined the Presidium of the Main Board of the PTF.

We extend our sincere congratulations to Professor Łapiński on this distinction and wish him fruitful work within the authorities of the PTF.

Dr. Magdalena Wencka has been appointed a member of the Management Committee within the COST Action CA24131 ENRICH, titled “European Network for radiation-detection based Research and Innovation addressing increasing societal Challenges”. We warmly congratulate Dr. Wencka on this distinction and wish her a rewarding experience working within this interdisciplinary European research network.

Today, 19 November 2025, we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Institute of Molecular Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. We look back on half a century of scientific activity, dynamic development, and the strengthening of the Institute’s position both in Poland and on the international stage. This is a special moment for our entire community – the Employees, Collaborators, and Friends of the Institute. As we celebrate this Golden Jubilee, we gratefully recall the efforts of many generations of our researchers, doctoral students, and administrative and technical staff, whose work has made the Institute of Molecular Physics PAS a recognized research centre. Today’s ceremony is a time to reflect on the rich history of the Institute, to take pride in its achievements, and to honour all those who over the years have contributed to shaping its legacy and identity. It is also an opportunity to look to the future with optimism – a future full of new challenges, inspirations, and discoveries awaiting the next generations of courageous scientists.
On the occasion of this Jubilee, the Directorate of the Institute of Molecular Physics PAS extends its best wishes to the entire Institute community: continued passion for knowledge, satisfaction in scientific work, and many further research and organizational successes.

We are pleased to announce that the project led by Dr. hab. Michał Bielejewski, Prof. IMP PAS, entitled “Metal-ion supramolecular electrolyte membranes for energy storage applications: design, synthesis, and characterization” was awarded funding (2 205 130 PLN) in the NCN OPUS-28 competition – read more about the project. The grant application was evaluated in the ST11 (Materials Engineering) panel, where 11 proposals received funding out of the 112 submitted.

Funding (1 418 960 PLN) was also granted under the NCN SONATA-20 competition, to the project led by Dr. Eng. Przemysław Skokowski entitled “Rotational magnetocaloric effect in intermetallic compounds with a layered crystal structure as an alternative cooling solution” – read more about the project. The application was assessed in the ST11 (Materials Engineering) panel, where 13 of the 76 submitted proposals were granted funding.
