where the Polish state came into being one thousand years ago. The first mention of Poznań was in a 10th century chronicle
(the beginning of written Polish history) contemporaneous with establishment of the first Polish bishopric in 968. Today, Poznań is an important industrial, trade, agriculture, cultural,
academic and educational centre.
